¢ and @®. In any aspect, this increases the animal passions and vigour of the body. In good aspect, the native has much ‘fire,’ great energy and vigqur, and achieves much ; he pushes his way with intensity of purpose, and having also much perseverance he is seldom thwarted. He has the ability to command and control others, but more through energy and strength of will than through subtlety of purpose. This position gives ability in games or pursuits involving muscular exercise rather than skill,—although if Mars is in an airy sign this same martial energy may take an intellectual direction: it strongly favours all Mars occupations; also legacy from a parent (probably father); and the birth of sons.

In conjunction or bad aspect, there is likelihood of the death of, separation from or disfavour of a parent (probably father), and a child (probably son). The native is too precipitate, rash, aggressive, proud or over-bearing, and loses the esteem of superiors, parents or the public on this account. In conjunction, may receive a legacy: in bad aspect, less chance of it, and is troubled through the goods of the dead; this latter more especially if one or both planets are in negative signs. His health or life may be in danger from martial diseases, accidents, surgical operations, assaults, quarrels, etc. There is some possibility of heart disease.

If Mars or the Sun be dignified by sign, the evil is lessened, and there is an accession rather of energy and executive power than of destructiveness, quarrelsomeness, or precipitancy.

3 and 2. In good aspect this is fortunate for money, whether earned by the native’s own exertion, gained by partnership, by association with someone, by marriage, or by legacy. It favours money by

any occupation of the four signs or houses ruled, especially the first and eighth; occupations involving personal energy, personal responsibility, personal initiative; all those ruled by Mars; any occupation connected with the dead or the goods of the dead in any way, or directly or indirectly with marriage. The native will part with money freely in social life and may launch out freely in business, for advertisement, for show, for good fellowship; it is, in fact, apt to be ‘easy come, easy go’; money is earned or spent in connection with the opposite sex, ornaments, finery, adornment, art, music, singing, the stage, etc. It is also fortunate for love, marriage, social popularity and attachments in general. The marriage or attachment will be to one signified by either of the two planets, but more especially Mars; and to one following any occupation of the four houses, but more especially those of the first and eighth. The marriage will be either for money, or to a moneyed person, or a marriage of passionate attachment; otherwise, love at first sight, or an early or quick marriage. The native will be very susceptible to the attractions of the opposite sex.

The conjunction is largely evil but not always wholly so; for a good deal depends upon which planet is the stronger, and whether the sign and house harmonise with either of the planets or not.

In bad aspect there will be loss of money from carelessness, extravagance, or dishonesty of some kind, and this may come through any matter signified by the four signs or the houses they occupy in the horoscope; from launching out too freely in enterprises, from the fault or misfortune of the marriage or business partner, or from the dishonesty or misfortune of any person associated with the native. There is likelihood of the loss of a legacy, or money troubles connected with matters pertaining to the dead; the loss of money by marriage or through the opposite sex; or else loss through dissipated habits. It is bad for love and marriage and for all association with the opposite sex ; the lover or marriage partner may die, or there will be separation or desertion. In extreme cases, where the rest of the horoscope accords, there will be danger to health or life to or from the opposite sex. The native manifests, or suffers from, jealousy; love turned to hatred; loss and opposition from former friends; or is involved in quarrels and enmity, secret or open. His popularity, social or otherwise, is endangered at times.

3 and %. In good aspect, this combination sharpens the wits.

makes the mind quick, bright, alert and lively, and gives humour, wit, sarcasm and satire. It throwsa great deal of energy, force and activity into all matters signified by the third and sixth houses. It gives some manual dexterity in the direction of drawing, designing, carving, sculpture, and all that is necessary for music, conjuring, etc., and for many kinds of mechanical work. It is fortunate for any activity of the third or sixth houses that depends upon energy, activity and individual enterprise; this combination tending to make such activities arise spontaneously from within the mind rather than impressed from without by force of circumstances. It gives ability and some inclination for alchemy, chemistry, science, and investigation of the mysteries and secrets of nature, for medicine, drugs, sanitation, engineering. It is slightly favourable for joining literary or occult societies or associations, or for making friends signified by either of the four signs ruled by the planets. Legacies may be received from, or money gained through, association with persons signified by the third or sixth houses. It is good for health and digestion, and the native benefits in health by drugs and sanitary methods, and may be inclined to use them frequently. The last four sentences apply more especially when the aspect falls from negative signs.

In evil aspect, while rendering the mind acute and active, as with the good aspects, and giving wit, dexterity of mind and hand, there is danger of overwork mentally, excitement and rashness. It gives good intellectual powers, but tends to the matter-of-fact, argumentative, or materialistic, rather than the imaginative or spiritual. If a writer or speaker he arouses opposition, criticism and ill-will; sometimes by his sharp tongue or pen or injudicious actions ; sometimes by little apparent fault of his own. Liable to scandalous reports, discreditable rumours, libel; or to originate such about other people, according to the general tone of the horoscope. Likely to disagree or quarrel with brethren, associates, friends. It brings trouble or obstacles through the affairs governed by the four signs, and accident, disease or malformation of any part of the body signified by these signs, the nervous system especially, such as neuralgia, sieeplessness, headache, etc. Danger while travelling, whether by land or water; also from wounds, from surgical operations,

drugs, tools, instruments, electricity, scientific experiments, etc.; may contract some drug ‘habit’; danger from quarrels, and from servants or inferiors ; possibility of suicide. Death of brethren, friends, agents, servants. If other influences in the horoscope co-operate, but only in this case, such an aspect as this may unhinge the mind or cause delusions or mania of a violent type.

3 and). In good aspect, greatly increases the activity, energy and vitality. If there is bad health indicated elsewhere, this will go far to counteract it and to preserve health and life. The native is capable of hard work, and works quickly. He accomplishes his ends more through his energy than subtlety, and influences people more by his activity and pushing ways than through agreeableness or insinuating manner, although all these may be present if indicated elsewhere in the horoscope. Enterprising and fruitful of resource, the native will not shrink from positions of publicity or responsibility. This position brings good fortune through the mother, and the possibility of a legacy or money from her on her side of the family. It is favourable for the dwelling-house and house-property, and for a prosperous close to life ; it gives a good deal of activity, intelligence and preservation of the senses to the last in old people. It favours fertility in offspring, and gives strength to the whole system, muscular and circulatory; it is good for those who have to work with their muscles, athletes, labourers, and for occupations carried on in the open air. It gives some likelihood of money or possessions through marriage or partnership. It is good for occupations of the fourth and eighth houses, also for those of the water and the watery element generally, and for martial pursuits. If religion is prominent in the horoscope, this may lend its influence in the same direction, according to its own nature.
