If well aspected by the luminaries it will counteract many other defects in the horoscope, and shows the probability of great gain and fortune at the close of life, or great spiritual advance.

If well aspecting Mars a religious end to the life is denoted: and if Saturn or Uranus are in good aspect, occult tendencies are denoted.

If afflicted, Jupiter in the fourth house denotes extravagance, waste of money in the household, and troubles through parents and their affairs. Mercury in affliction denotes lawsuits, and the luminaries afflicting, danger of apoplexy or sudden heart troubles.

Mars in the fourth is a very unfavourable and unfortunate position, causing the close of life to be perilous and fraught with many trials and troubles. It denotes quarrels with parents, and many disputes in the home life, domestic affairs going wrong and causing much unpleasantness and many misunderstandings, with probable strife, and if Mars is afflicted by either Saturn or Uranus, danger of violence and a sudden derminus vile.

If Mars is well aspected in this house it will show energy and force, and much enterprise, but a liability of error through impulse is

also shown. Mercury afflicted by Mars from the fourth house denotes feeling and passion to be in excess of thought and reason. Uranus afflicting Mars, there is a danger of suicide or insanity, which may be hereditary. This position of Mars denotes inherited tendencies, and shows a life that is more or less fatalistic. Troubles through the dwelling-house and house property ; danger of fire and accidents therein. It sometimes gives an unruly nature.

Tue Sun in the fourth house shows success at the end of life, realised ambitions, hopes and desires when the life is nearing the close. It denotes a good heredity with which pride of ancestry is connected. It promises gain by inheritance or some benefits coming through, ar by means of, the parentage. It is a position that favours enquiry into the secret and hidden things in nature, such as occultism, mysticism, and thoughts connected with the higher mind or individuality.

If well aspected by Jupiter or Saturn and the Moon, gain of property or financial benefits by inheritance. If afflicted, trouble through one or both parents, and obstacles in life. It also shows that the native may exceed his income and incur heavy debts through extravagance, or by living beyond the sphere of life to which he belongs.

VeENus in the fourth denotes a peaceful end to the life amid comfort, and successful achievement to hopes and wishes. It promises gain by inheritance, concord and happiness from parents, and a satisfactory home life. This is a very favourable position for all affairs of a domestic nature, and is a sure token of a good finish at the close of life.

If afflicted it is not so very disastrous, except that it affects finance and denotes grief and sorrow at the close of life when in a sign that is not congenial to the nature of Venus. If afflicted by: Hl, some sudden reversals of fortune or extraordinary experiences; 6, carelessness and looseness of morals, or a tendency to be extravagant at the latter part of the life.

Venus in the fourth house in good aspect with the luminaries is very fortunate and makes the whole life a success, fortune favouring the termination of all transactions, tending to bring all undertakings to a successful issue.

Mercury in the fourth denotes changes of residence, worry and anxiety concerning home and domestic affairs, and great difficulty in settling or avoiding frequent disturbance.

If afflicted by: HI, mental distress and strange change of fortune with much difficulty in remaining for any length of time in one place; h, thefts and frauds; ¢, the victim of sharp practice and treachery.

If in good aspect to: I, denotes a considerable expansion of consciousness toward the close of life; h, considerably steadies the tendency to change, and brings gain from parents; © or ), lessens the tendency to adverse change, and promises the retention of the mental faculties at the close of life. It indicates ability that lacks opportunity, but if Jupiter is in good aspect with Mercury then opportunity comes at the end.

Tue Moon in the fourth house denotes much fluctuation of circumstances and many changes of residence at the close of life. It is only a favourable position when the Moon is well aspected at birth, when it denotes probable gain by inheritance and some reputation or popularity through one or both of the parents. It is a frequent indication of adoption, or early separation from the home sphere.

If the Moon is afflicted: by FH, sudden adverse changes, unexpected turns of fortune, difficulties in the home life and a chequered career ; h, a sure sign of poverty or much disappointment, with small ability to succeed in life and prosper; d, reversals of fortune through impulsive conduct and rash action; © or %, loss through theft and deception is denoted. |

If the Moon in the fourth is well aspected a peaceful end is promised but this position indicates many changes, and often frequent removals, with no certainty of a settled abode.

The fourth house in quite a general sense denotes the parents, their condition and affairs. In considering the question of parentage, with regard to the father the Sun and the planet Saturn should have careful consideration. It is difficult to convey the ideas relating to the Sun and "Saturn as significators of the father to those who are not familiar with the mystical side of the subject, but to those who understand that there is a life and form side to everything the idea is expressed in the fact that through the Sun comes the spiritual heredity which is connected with the Ego, and through the limitations of Saturn are conveyed the Karmic or fatalistic and physical tendencies.

In the same way Venus and the Moon represent the mother and her conditions, Venus denoting the nutritive and preservative quality,

and the Moon the formative tendencies, the habits and peculiar hereditary inclinations.

The Sun represents the father, or life and health aura, also the higher mental and moral merits; Saturn the Kama-Manas or crystallised personal legacy of the previous life: (that which is bred in the doze). Venus represents the feelings and higher emotions and the human qualities, the cream of all past experiences; the Moon the animal and personal inclinations, the watery and fluidic part of the personal man.

The position of the Sun and Venus will denote the moral and purely mental or human tendencies of the joint parents. The aspects to these two significators will improve or modify their conditions ; if there should be much affliction it weakens the moral stamina transmitted from the parents to the native. |

The position of Saturn and the Moon denotes the worldly and material condition of the parents and the early environment of the native.

The signs upon the cusps of the tenth and fourth houses, their rulers and the aspects between them, will denote the attitude of the parents toward each other and their influence upon the native, especially if the ruler of the ascendant is considered in its relationship with the rulers of the tenth and fourth.

If both the luminaries are well aspected by the benefic planets the native is usually born into a good environment. Ifthe luminaries are afflicted by the malefic planets, then adverse fortune and more or less obscurity are denoted. Careful judgment and much practice are needed before a correct opinion can be formed regarding the parents and their affairs. ah If the Sun and Saturn are very well aspected, and either or both angular, long life to the father is denoted. If these significators are better placed,or above Venus and Moon, the father will outlive the mother. The significators exalted, dignified, and weil aspected, favour ‘the parent described. If occidental (in the western half of the map) longer life to the father is denoted than when oriental.

It is never safe, of course, to judge the affairs of the parents from \ the native’s map alone, but general ideas may be obtained as to the sympathy or otherwise existing between the native and his parents. In many cases pretty reliable results may be obtained by taking the tenth house as the ascendant of the mother, and counting the houses round in
