Loyal friendships, gain through attachments.

If the Moon is afflicted by Mars or Saturn sorrows and losses through friends will occur.

_ Although the eleventh house in general represents friendships, yet these are not to be judged exclusively from this house, for the horoscope of another may so blend as to produce a lasting friendship that is not wholly shown by the eleventh house. The luminaries in favourable accord in two nativities will produce sympathy, while if, moreover, the ascendants be in good aspect to one another a lasting and firm friendship will result; again, acquaintance will ripen into friendship if in two horoscopes the ruling planets are in favourable aspect to each other.

Friendships will occur between two persons when the ruler of one transits the ascendant of another. Saturn’s transits will bring friends

wlio are older than the native and whose influence will be according to the nature of the aspects formed.

Jupiter will bring friendships arising out of religious or social intercourse, and which are likely to be both pleasant and beneficial. Mars and Venus friendships awaken the emotional side of the nature and, if between opposite sexes, lead to amours or attachments in which the feelings or passions are aroused. In all friendships Venus will be the planet most affected, by its own position, and by the planet which in another horoscope occupies the same place; for Venus is the planet of union and of communion.

tt being a negative planet of the nature of Venus herself, is most affected by its opposite, Mars, and often produces a strong sympathy or affinity of a remarkable character, if only the senses are not allowed free rein.

HI will cause strange romantic attachments which do not always end happily, unless there is great self-control, the feelings being very violently affected,

}, will cause affinity through some sorrow, fatalistic tendency, or ties connected with the past, which will steadily cool the affections, bringing them to a critical stage from which grave issues will spring.

will produce a strong attachment in which feeling and emotion are chiefly concerned ; but this chiefly in opposite sexes.

in one horoscope on the place of Venus in another will produce a happy and pleasurable friendship.

will give affinity in music, art, or mental intercourse.

in one horoscope will have a similar effect, tending to make friendship more permanent and lasting.

Mars on the place of Venus will produce magentic attraction in which the senses will sooner or later play a prominent part, while Saturn on the place of Venus will produce a mental fascination, in which the mind will play a more prominent part than the senses.

If the benefic planets are in sympathy in two horoscopes friendship and true affinity will result, but if the malefic planets are in adverse aspect in two horoscopes then enmity or discord will be the outcome of acquaintanceship. Similarly with the luminaries, according as they are aspected either by benefics or malefics.

In this way friends or enemies may be judged from the nativity by

noting the planets in aspect to the Sun or Moon. Saturn afflicting ©

either will denote trouble and probably sorrow from persons older than the native, or who are of the nature of Saturn (according to the sign it

is in at birth). Mars afflicting the luminaries will denote trouble and pain through martial persons, according to the sign and house in which Mars was placed at birth. |

The following case will illustrate this, showing how fate will punish by affinity. A lady who has Saturn elevated above all the other planets in the sign Cancer in the mid-heaven, and afflicting her ruling planet, has all her life (now fifty years) suffered through the influence of her father, and the weaker he became (h in SS) the more acutely did she suffer. The bond of affection between them was the Sun in the father’s horoscope on the place of the Moon in his daughter’s nativity. They were alternately attracted and repelled—loving and hating each other at intervals.

Careful judgment will reveal all enemies to be overcome, by the position of the malefics, and the aspects they form to any of the planets in the nativity. It is always safe to consider true friends to be shown where the benefics in one horoscope occupy the place of the luminaries or ascendant in the other, and, similarly, enemies by the malefics. It is also important to notice that those who are seeking to rule their stars overcome their enemies by /ove, and ever seek to return good for evil; but in the less evolved this will not be the case.

In regard to attractions between two individuals—more especially, perhaps, between those of opposite sex-—it must be remembered that Nature is ever seeking to supply deficiencies and to counterbalance excess. Hence, any given native, or any given portion of a horoscope, will always be most strongly attracted by his or its ofposie, even as the seventh house is opposite to the first. We must therefore expect to find the greatest attraction between opposite planets: thus, Mars will attract Venus, and wee versd; Saturn, Jupiter; the Sun, the Moon; and so on. Not only so, but one nativity, as a whole, may attract another as a whole, although there may be no specific points of contact discernible. For instance, when one nativity shows a strong predominance of the Martial and Jupiterian characteristics, however these may be displayed,—by the two planets rising, or in reception, or by Martial and Jupiterian signs being prominent,—such a person will be strongly attracted to one whose nativity shows a marked excess cf the Venusian and Saturnian qualities. And such an attraction, being more general than particular in its nature, is likely to prove more lasting and deeper in its effects than such as are signified merely by the sympathy of one pair of planets.

In this, as in all other departments of Natal Astrology, it is ever necessary to keep a watchful eye upon the horoscope as a whole, whenever concentrating special attention on any detail. But the above considerations will throw light on many problems of mutual attraction that are likely to come before the student, and which may puzzle him because the cause of the attraction is not immediately apparent.

It must be remembered that Nature is greater than Man, and has her own problems to solve, which are more important than his, and that she works more largely by generals than by particulars. Thus, when it becomes necessary that the custom of inter-marriage in a clan or tribe should be broken up, some individual will be found powerfully attracted to one outside that clan or tribe, and the whole weight of tradition, custom, and tribal prejudice, with its weapons of disinheritance and ostracism, will be found powerless to prevail against this new attraction. Instances of this kind, of course, are comparatively rare, but they serve to show that Nature, ‘ever careful of the type,’ cares nothing for individual interest or prejudice.

This is a fitting place to state the fact of there being seven distinct types of individuals in the world, each type being directly or indirectly connected with its own planetary ray, all persons thus being more or less influenced by the planetary spirit to whom they belong. And until this truth is recognised, and the fact known that although we are all one in essence as ‘ Divine Fragments,’ yet all are ‘coloured’ differently, there must continue to be sympathies and antipathies. This accounts for the pronounced Martial types having very little sympathy for the Saturnine types, and vice versd. It is difficult for the unevolved to understand that it is the decree of Nature te produce distinctions for purposes of evolution, and until the Jaw of magnetic vibration is understood this law will continue to distress many other wise well-disposed folk. Hatred is often the result of magnetic conditions affecting each person discordantly, while on the other hand affinities expressing true friendship are those produced by the rhythmic interblending of the rays, resulting in harmonious vibration.
