In conjunction or bad aspect, the native is imprudent, rash and hasty; his temper is quick, and he says and does things that he soon regrets. He is frequently in mental or physical conflict with other people, and constantly finds himself differing from others and at variance with them, perhaps much to his own surpriseand regret. He dislikes being hampered or fettered by restrictions, and often breaks rules and regulations of all kinds, careless of the consequences, inciting others to do the same. This position gives strong and ill-regulated passions, which may bring the native much sorrow; these may act in many directions, but bad temper, drink and sex impulses need specially guarding: he Ss

may incur public scandal in some degree in connection with any of these, although sometimes this may be quite as much if not more someone else’s fault than his own. It may bring trouble of some kind in the sex relation, whether married or not, and disorders affecting the sex organs, lower bowel, or bladder, also the head or eyes. It brings trouble through the mother and her side of the family, her illness or death, or separation from her; also through the house or dwelling-place, and house property. It may cause maladies affecting the breasts, digestion, head and nervous system, and sometimes cancer. It gives liability to a martial death, one rather sudden, or from fever, accident, excitement, rupture of a blood-vessel, wounds, surgical operations; danger from water and fire, scalding, drowning, burning. Loss of an expected legacy ; loss of money through marriage or partnership, through robbery, deceit or the bad advice or action of others. If the aspect is strong the native is likely to arouse enmity and opposition and to incur strong disapproval from many people. It may make him excitable and nervous.

The evil effects, so far as they influence character and disposition, may vary very greatly according to the general condition of the horoscope, the prominence of benefics, the sign rising, etc. With prominent benefics and an otherwise good horoscope, the character may suffer very little, and the effects work out through mere ‘bad luck,’ fate, or what the Easterns term Karma.

Notr.—Mars sometimes seems to act, in good as well as evil, more through the influence of other people and association with them than from the native’s own action or initiative; good or evil comes to the native from the action of other people. This is, of course, the female (Scorpio) or negative action of Mars. In its male (Aries) and positive nature, the native influenced by Mars is himself the direct or indirect cause of his own fortune or misfortune, and not other people.

Intellectual friendships; gain through secret and occult affairs. ‘This position gives an ideal love nature, which seeks union for the realisation of the inner self apart from the senses, and the native is anxious to obtain a mental if not a Sou/ OUnton.

? I. Dual love affairs. Gain through relatives. Peculiar loveintrigues necessitated in some manner by home life or domestic ties, many loving friends ; honour affected by inferiors for good or ill. Success with affairs abroad in connection with marriage ; many relatives through marriage ; more than one union. Attachments or marriage to members of the clerical or judicial profession. Sickness through profession or

business pursuits; gain by speculation, through the help and advice of

friends. Heart sorrows at the close of life. Travel for pleasure; and gain through secret and obscure methods. A religious or philosophical love-hfe is ever sought rather than the sensual or worldly.

Power to create own domestic atmosphere; gain through ingenuity or mental receptivity, or by sensing public needs and supplying them. Gifted in the occult arts, or in matters related to the astral or psychic world; fortunate as amedium. The desire nature is polarised towards Ideai love. |

? St. Ardent in affection, extravagant, and fond of social display. Secret attachments with inferiors ; marriage to a friend or brought about through the influence of friends. Liable to dishonour through jealousy, or failure of duty through attachments. Capable of a soul union or philosophical affection, which is sometimes termed free love. Liable to death in order to save honour. One lasting affection at close of life. Very intuitive where affection is concerned. Fond of speculation, and generally fortunate in speculative ventures when impulse is avoided. Gain through inheritance. Mentally clever or intuitive. Mysterious domestic arrangements at the close of life. The goal sought is Conjugality .

? ny. Pure in affection; the love of chastity being innate. Secret marriage or /aison, intrigue or tragedy in connection with love affairs ; honour affected through dual attachments. Travels abroad in connection with business affairs, or to safeguard reputation. Loss of friends by death, causing much sorrow. Marriage to an obscure person, or one who has secret troubles ; love-sickness, or entanglements with inferiors. Gain by speculation and the help of partner in monetary affairs. Strange experience at close of life; concern regarding relatives; mind occupied at close of life with affections, which latter occasion much correspondence or perhaps travel. A liability to be always involved in secret attachments or unions that are private and undiscovered. The ‘law of opposites’ operates here in a marked degree to bring a realisation of the inward purity, which is very difficult to maintain in the outer

world owing either to ties of the past or the inner desire to make the Love universal rather than particular.

¢ ==. Pure and refined in affection; a simple love nature; many sorrows through death of loved ones; philosophic friends. Honour or position and social gain through marriage; native survives partner. Love affairs and attachments to cousins or relatives. Marriage for love, and financial sacrifices in consequence, for marriage will bring unusual domestic responsibilities ; a fruitful union and intellectual children being however shown. The inner desire is for true Peace.

? M. Jealous love nature. Pride of caste. Probable marriage to one who has been previously married. Risky attachments; self-control in matters connected with the feelings; failure in social affairs. Mystical friends, or friendships with persons of doubtful repute. Attacks upon honour through friends or acquaintances. Sea voyages, and romantic adventures during travel. Liable to death by poison, or by suicide through passion and unhappy alliances. Financial gain through unions ; secret enmity of servants or blood relations ; death of children or trouble through their affairs. Liable to heart affection at close of life. Power to read character or sit in judgment upon others; gain by secret alliance. The inner desire is for Purification of the sex-nature.
