139. % h A.—Somewhat limited intellect; inclination to set up barriers, causing lack of breadth; often inclined to be too conservative ; generally orthodox. Difficulties in dealings with others. Liable to suffer discredit, and often suffers through an unforgiving and jealous nature.

140. ¥% h £#.—Usually a prudent and thoughtful mind, and capable of much mental responsibility. Fond of science and profound thought. Capable of much concentration, usually serious, earnest and sincere, and very faithful in attachments. Highly favourable where a general philosophical attitude is indicated.

141. & h C.—Subtle mind, very concentrative, given to the study of metaphysics and occultism. Capable of deep penetration; able mind, sometimes too severe, critical or exacting. This position may be equally good or bad, according to other aspects.

142. % 2% A.—Liable to errors of judgment; sometimes prejudiced in regard to religion; oftentimes sceptical. Inclined to create false impressions; sometimes prone to litigation; and liable to be severely criticised.

143. % % B.—Excellent judgment, broad and philosophic mind; mentally intuitive or harmonious; straightforward and conscientious ; capable of being wise; very well balanced mentally.

144. % Y C.—Joyous and hopeful mental attitude; intuitive and sincere mind, and capable of great mental expansion.

145. % 6 A.—Impulsive mind; often over-energetic ; quick wit; exaggerated imagination; a fearless intellect, with inclination to assert some opinions very freely. It often gives ability to follow scientific pursuits, or intellectual ingenuity, but is against really original work.

146. §% og B—Very energetic mind, acute, sharp and active; much mental force; usually a witty, bright and cheerful outlook. Sometimes gives ability for drawing or designing, and more often than not gives mechanical ability with manual dexterity. |

147, % 3d C.—Quick wit, cheerfui mind, materialistic or practical tendencies; socialistic views. Enterprise and business ability; but

often inclined to say more than is wise and to over-estimate or exaggerate. The magnifying ability is very great.

148. § @? A.—Usually an unimportant aspect, but prevents intuition or a full development of the artistic tastes.

149. % ¢ £B.—The mind is softened, and inclined to be merry, cheerful, bright; gives a love of music or the fine arts; blends mind with feeling.

150 § 2? C.—A refining position; gives sympathy and appreciation; love of reading; an affable disposition; fond of all sociable and pleasurable conditions.

The various houses in the horoscope may now be separately studied so far as they affect the fate and fortune of the native.

This house and the planets in it affect the general activities and that which is chiefly concerned with the personality. It has been already treated with sufficient fulness in Chapter VI.

This is chiefly concerned with finance, means of livelihood, etc., and planets in this house cause a strong interest in money matters throughout the greater part of the native’s life.

I51. ‘$.—May be either very good or very evil for finance. Sometimes natives having this position lose through fraud and deception, although money often comes from unexpected sources or through following occupations of an uncommon nature.

152. ii.—Denotes sudden changes of fortune, often bringing peculiar and remarkable experiences in financial affairs. Denotes success in professions connected with curiosities, old books or curious and antique furniture, auctioneering and all matters of an uncommon nature.

153- h.—Not always favourable for money, but denotes gain by perseverance, thrift or carefulness. If well aspected brings gain through investment in land or property, or through heavy and arduous pursuits. Nevertheless money comes in slowly unless obtained by hereditary right.

154. %.—This is the best position for the accumulation of wealth 5 generally brings money by legacy or the aid of others; brings gain through foreign travel or pursuits connected with land, food or clothing. But it is best for all pursuits of an expansive nature, thus favours money-lenders, bankers, or those who have the handling of much cash.

155. o.—Gives success through enterprise; also through legacies and inheritance, but denotes waste of money or extravagance and lack of carefulness. Usually Mars in the second brings money, which, however, is quickly spent.

156. @©.—Increases financial gain, gives success in government affairs, or concerns where much authority is exercised. It favours expenditure on a large scale for the purpose of big realisations. Thus shows gain by speculation, judicious investments; or gain through superiors and a fixed income.

157. ¢.—Favours acquisition of wealth, denoting good fortune and prosperity in any occupation. But always inclines towards professional pursuits, partnerships and refined employments.

158- %.—-Gain through literary pursuits, agencies, or where business versatility is necessary, giving success through commission agencies, acting as intermediary, through printing, journalism or any profession where adaptability is necessary.

159. ).—Denotes a fluctuating financial condition, monetary prospects waxing and waning like the Moon. It favours success in connection with public commodities, public companies and associations catering and public wants generally, and favours S.P.Q.R. dealing. |

159a. Whenno planets occupy the second house, and it is governed by a CarDINAL SiGn, it denotes gain through ambition; much activity and industry, though there is always a liability to fluctuating fortune and changes where money isconcerned. It however favours speculative enterprise, and acquisitiveness is usually well developed.

1596. Ifa Fixep Sicn occupy the second, the liability to fluctuation is lessened and there is usually a fixed income, much or little according to the position and aspects of its lordorruler. It denotes gain through investments and favours unearned incomes.

159¢. Ifa MuraBLe Sien rule the second, finance is prone to fluctuation. It favours professional pursuits but gives some anxiety where finance is concerned. There is apt to be some indifference regarding the accumulation of wealth.

The third house concerns matters connected with the lower brain mind, mental disposition, etc., and is chiefly concerned with travel, particularly short journeys; it also affects matters connected with relatives, brothers, sisters, etc. Any planet in this house accentuates its influence.

160. ‘'$.—Indifference to travel; inclines to weird experiences; a skeleton in the cupboard with regard to relatives, and peculiar episodes in connection with brethren. It gives a peculiar type of mind.

161. HI.—Not altogether favourable for travelling, and usually indicates sudden and unexpected journeys. It produces friction between relatives and brethren, who act in a peculiar and strange manner. Indicates a love of Astrology and all metaphysical subjects. When well aspected, it is a good influence.

162. h.—Not good for travel, denoting hindrances and delays in connection with journeys. Itis unfavourable for any agreement between relatives, and sorrow often comes through brethren. Gives a serious type of mind, fond of the occult and mystical, with the ability to study Astrology.

163. %.—Fortunate for travel, which is undertaken either for pleasure or profit. It indicates successful dealings with kindred, and success in the social world through brethren; gives a religious type of mind.

164. 6.—Not good for travelling, denoting liability to accidents while on journeys, which are usually of an enterprising character. It denotes troubles through relatives; scandal or annoyance through brethren; and a combative or impulsive type of mind.

165. ©@.—Favourable for travel, although it does not indicate much moving about. Journeys are generally undertaken for important purposes, and may have far-reaching results. It denotes a high-spirited mind, the prosperity of brethren, and successful dealings with relatives.

166. ¢.—Makes travel successful and prosperous, journeys usually being undertaken in order to improve the mind, which is easy-going, pleasure-loving, and more or less artistic. Brethren rise in life and dealings with relatives are successful and fruitful. ,
