234. h.—Some faithful and reliable friends, often elderly persons; but usually there are some keen disappointments in connection with personal friendships.

235. %4.—Advancement and success through friends; social benefits and financial gain through them.

236. o&.—Dangerous friendships which are likely to influence the native adversely.

237. ©.-—Firm and reliable friends; gain through relatives, and the realisation of many ambitions. _

238 @.—Much success through friends, also gain socially and financially through them.

239. %.—Clever friends and acquaintances, but not much reliance should be placed upon them. |

240. )).—Many acquaintances and few friends. )

Note.—The lord of the ascendant in one horoscope in the sign on the cusp of the eleventh of the other is always a sure token of friendship between two people.

The twelfth house is considered the most unfortunate, and the term ‘self-undoing’ is used by the author to describe the change in consciousness that usually takes place when planets are placed in this house. It is the house of ¢rue occultism. Planets in this house are therefore especially important.

241. ‘s.—Strange and peculiar experiences in connection with psychic affairs. It is rarely a favourable position unless very well aspected. |

242. H.—Good for occult matters, but much depends upon aspects.

243. h.—Unfavourable, denoting many sorrows, painful experiences, and unforgiving enemies. 3

244. %.—Favourable for occultism, and the native gains indirectly through his enemies, in fact, he always gains through them more or less.

245. 6.—Unfavourable in this house, and at some period of the life either a hospital:-or other public building is occupied. It gives. danger of false accusation, and if much afflicted liability to imprisonment. Denotes some powerful enemies.

246. ©.—Good for occult matters, the native overcomes his. enemies; improves his worldly affairs and more often than not rises out. of obscurity into prosperity.

247. ¢.—Favourable in the twelfth, as it dissipates the sorrows of this house, giving joy and pleasure in occult affairs. It generally denotes, however, secret and romantic love affairs. :

248. %.—Favours the investigation of spiritualism and occultism, but denotes danger through treachery or the evil thoughts of others if afflicted.

249. )—Is unfavourable; denotes restrictions ; sometimes produces confinement, or loss of liberty and freedom. Enemies are troublesome.

X. SUMMARIES X. : (a) Pranets Risinc, Sertinc, ABovE or BELow

Att horoscopes are best summarised, first by the planetary positions taken as a whole (rising, setting, or culminating), and next with regard to the nature of the signs holding the majority of the planets.

250. PLANETS RIsiInc,—ze, in houses XI, XII, I, IH, II,— promise a rise in life through the native’s own energy and enterprise, indicate opportunities, a fair amount of self-control, and the ability to make the most of those opportunities.

251. PLANETS SETTING,—ze., in houses V, VI, VII, VII, [X,— show that the life will be more under the influence of fate, and that the influence of others will play an important part in the life of the native; also that the exercise of the will will not be so manifest. It denotes a certain lack of opportunity.

252. PLANETS ABOVE THE Horizon,—~.e., in houses VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII,—denotes success in life, also that as much as can be manifest will be exhibited. They indicate ambition, real ability; a self-reliant, persevering, aspiring and energetic nature. When the majority are above the earth the native nearly always rises above the sphere of his birth.

253. PLANETS BELOW THE Horizon,—ze., in houses I, II, III, IV, V, VI (especially the three last),—promise success in the latter half of life, indicating that there is a great deal latent in the native, but _ that he will probably pass through life unrecognised and unknown. It

also indicates that the native succeeds better in the employ of others nan by taking responsibility upon himself.

254. The majority of planets in Fiery signs denotes a spirited and idealistic nature. It gives the native force and energy; a rich and generous nature; plenty of vitality, hope and enthusiasm ; deep emotions and an ardent love nature. Usually gives a great deal of courage mentally or morally. Planets in those signs are more active than in others.

255. The majority in Arry signs denotes an inspirational and artistic temperament. It endows the native with a refined intellect, pure tastes; high ideals and good social abilities.

256. The majority of planets in Watery signs denotes a psychic or emotional nature; the instinctual consciousness is very keen: and the native is always more or less receptive or impressionable; often mediumistic, and sometimes passionate; responsive to and usually largely affected by circumstances, surroundings and environment.

257. Ihe majority of planets in Eartuy signs shows a very practical and matter-of-fact nature. The native is either scientifically or commercially inclined, and in any case takes a very solid and concrete view of life. Is rarely quick or brilliant, but more often than not persevering, painstaking and plodding. Generally takes a materialistic view of life, requiring a demonstration of theories before they are accepted. This position gives great power in the material world, and in a strong horoscope would denote a very practical man of affairs.

The next consideration is whether the majority of planets are in Cardinal, Mutable or Fixed signs. The first have to do with ambition, fame and recognition, arising from the Cardinal nature of the signs, while socialistic and sympathetic or fickle tendencies are due to a predominance of the Mutable signs, whereas pride, determination, and love of authority are the result of the Fixed signs.

258. The majority of planets in CarDINAL SIGNS causes the native to hold prominent positions; to exhibit much enterprise and ambition; causing him never to be fully satisfied unless he is at the head of things. He will love change, will be more or less self-assertive, independent and active. Will have many changes in his life, and usually each step in life is on to a higher rung of the ladder. He will have high ideals, and seek to make them practical; a political trend of mind, rarely being satisfied if not ruling others: generally the pioneer spirit will predominate.

259. The majority of planets in Fixep Siens denotes determination, firmness, and self-reliance. The native will be either proud or dignified, inclined to be austere or autocratic, but will always be dependable and reliable. He will be capable of patience and endurance, and will rise in life through fixity of purpose and persistent effort.

260. The majority of planets in Mutas.e Siens indicates either an indifferent or mediocre life ; versatility, often much indecision ; a liability to be fickle and discontented ; always more or less restless, but with

either intellectual or educational views. The native is always more or less demonstrative and capable of very deep feelings and emotions, but rarely succeeds in life unaided by others. Or if he does succeed, fails to gain sufficient recognition for his labours. Often misses opportunities ; is rarely thorough, although often methodical; and seldom if ever achieves fame, although he may be possessed of excellent merit. A great characteristic of this quality is sympathy, and in spite of their unreliability, these people are usually very ‘likeable.’

261. When the planets are almost equally distributed throughout the three quadruplicities, a well-balanced and fairly even temperament is denoted, and in this case more attention should be paid to the planetary positions (a) than to the signs they occupy. It is, on the whole, a favourable testimony and generally gives a more or less ‘all-round’ character, sound common sense, and good judgment.
