the Moon is occidental and afflicting the Sun marriage is rarely consummated.Happy marriages are those where the Moon, Jupiter and Venus are all in good aspect, with the Sun free from affliction.The Moon in Gemini, Sagittarius, or Pisces points to more than one marriage especially if oriental, or angular.In a male horoscope the wife is always described by the planet to which the Moon first applies, for instance if to Saturn, she will be grave, serious, and thoughtful, if to Jupiter, cheerful and fortunate, to Mars, self assertive and hard to please, to Venus, good-looking and a pleasing companion, to Mercury, clever and sensible. In a female horoscope the Sun is to be taken as the Moon in a male horoscope in this respect. The description of the wife (husband) is that of the planet forming the nearest aspect to the Moon (Sun), and partakes largely of the sign which that planet occupies.If none of these rules can be applied judge well the seventh house and the planets aspecting the cusps.

The western point, or occidental angle, is moist ; because, when the Sun is there, the moisture, which had heen overpowered during the day, recommences its operation : and the winds proceeding from thence, and commonly called west winds, are light and damp. |The northern point, or angle of the lower heaven, is the most cold; for the Sun’s meridian position in this part of the earth i far removed from it in declination: and all winds thence proceeding, under the common name of north winds, are cold and frosty.It will, of course, be seen that a thorough acquaintance with the foregoing matters is essential in order to acquire the faculty of distinguishing’ temperaments in every shape and variation : since it is sufficiently obvious that the effective influence of the stars must be greatly diversified by the constitutions of the seasons, as well as those of the ages of life, and of the angles ; and also that the stars have a much stronger influence on any constitution, when there may not be in it any tendency contrary to their own, as the whole influence is then entire and unalloyed. . For example, stars effecting: heat operate more vigorously in constitutions of heat; and those effecting moisture in constitutions of moisture. -On the other hand, shouldad PYOLEMY’SR TETRABIBLOS, [ Beok I. a tendency, contrary ta their own, exist in any constitution, the stars accordingly become less efficaciéus; in consequence of being attempered and mixed with that contrary tendency: and this happens, for instance, when stars effeeting heat are attempered by constitutions of cold, or stars producing moisture by constitutions of dryness. The influence of every star is thus modified hy the proportionate admisture presented by. constitutions of a nature different from its own. . Jn succession to the previous instructions, the following deacription of the natural and peenliar properties of the signs of the zodiac is annexed: the general temperaments_ Of the signs are analogous te those of the seasons, which

12 min., and by looking up the column $ , will be found lower down (or succeeding) s, which shows us that 11 deg. 12 min. of & t0 be placed on the cusp of the Ascendant or first house. Next, the student will perceive 28 deg. of $ in the column headed 2, or the second house ; and lastly, on the third house, he will observe 21 deg. of v jp, in the column headed 3, which are found on the cusp of the third house. These are the whole of the six oriental houses ; and in order to find the signs and degrees on the cusps of the opposite, or occidental houses, the student must again refer to the foregoing pages, where they are set down : thus he will find, that the fourth house bein^opposite to the tenth, and ^ opposite to r , there must consequently be 22 deg. of di placed on the cusp of the fourth house. Likewise the fifth house being opposite to the eleventh, and f opposed to n, there must be placed 2 deg. of f on the cusp of the fifth house. Again, the twelfth house is the opposite to the sixth, and Yf is opposite to 25, consequently 10 deg. of Vj> must occupy the cusp of the sixth house. Also the opposite house to the ascendant or first, is the seventh house, and ss is opposed to $ , therefore 1 1 deg. 12 min. of ss must descend with the cusp of the seventh house. On the second house we have 28 deg. ofQ and 22 still being1 opposite to that sign, 28 deg. of ss must occupy the cusp of the eighth house. Lastly, the third house and the ninth house are opposite to each other, so are n;> and ; therefore by the same formula, as we have 21 deg. of lip on the cusp of the third house, 21 deg. of X must take station on that of the ninth ; by which means, and by a very simple process, the whole theme of heaven, or figure of the nativity, is formed and erected.This constitutes what is termed the Radix or groundwork of Astrologers, whereon they build their judgments ; and we should presume that the foregoing example, which will hold good in all cases, is sufficiently plain, for even the casual reader of this “ Manual” to cast the Horoscope or figure of their birth, provided the true day and hour thereof is known.
