In any horoscope money matters are judged largely, but not exclusively, from the state of the second house. As we have seen elsewhere, this house belongs to the triad of tenth, second and sixth: and of these the tenth house or mid-heaven is concerned toa great extent with occupation. business. profession; the sixth with servants, employees, situa’ tions, positions or spheres of activity in which money may be earned; and the second with money. In addition, the eighth house has to do with money inherited, legacies, and money coming to the native through other people (chiefly through the business or marriage partner); and in a similar way the twelfth and fourth houses may be considered to have a similar reflex influence, as it were, of the sixth and tenth houses. The question of money cannot therefore be judged exclusively from the second house, for these others have also to be taken into consideration and judged in their relation to each other and to the horoscope as a whole, nevertheless the second house must be allowed final voice in the matter.

In dealing wlth this, as with any other house, the usual order is to be followed: ;

(1) Consider any planet in the house, whether strong or weak, whether well or ill aspected and by what planets, also what other house or houses it rules by sign. The normal state of affairs, in theory at least, is for a planet in the second house to indicate gam through events, occupations, or persons signified by the planet, quite irrespective of whether it is a ‘benefic’ or a ‘malefic.’ If it is uniformly well aspected, this probability will be a certainty; but any bad aspect will be a source of difficulty, delay, or loss, according to the closeness of the aspect and the nature of the planet that throws it. For instance, if Mars is in the second house and well aspected, the native will gain money by his own exertions, through people who are born under Mars

or under the planets with which Mars is in good aspect; by the dead 15r

(legacies); and by the occupations that come under this planet, such as that of soldier, surgeon, butcher, worker in metals, chemicals, etc. But if Mars is badly aspected, there may be loss through any or all of these channels, and also through those signified by the afflicting planet. If there is a mixture of good and evil aspects, the good luck will of course come through the planets that throw the good aspects. In any case there will be a tendency to give away, spend, or in some way scatter money, owing to the inner nature of the planet Mars, irrespective of its aspects. The general influence of the planets and signs over money is given below. |

(2) Secondly, if no planet is in the house, that ruling the sign on the cusp of the house is sure to be important, and must be considered much as Mars in the instance just given. Here again the natural tendency is for the native to gam through the lord of the second house, according to its nature, to the part of the horoscope in which it is situated, and to the planets that are in good aspect to it: and only to lose if weak by sign or badly aspected. For instance, if the lord of the second is in the third house and well aspected, there will be gain through matters signified by that house, such as brothers and sisters, short journeys, writings, mental work, and the occupations associated with the third house. The inherent nature of the planet that rules the second house must also be taken into account, and the sign in which it is placed. A gentleman born under Libra has Scorpio on the cusp of the second house; Mars, the ruler of Scorpio, is in Capricorn in the third house; he holds an appointment as Medical Officer of Health in a large health resort. Here Scorpio and Mars agree with the nature of the occupation, and Capricorn being the tenth sign of the zodiac signifies a public appointment; and the third house influence may perhaps be detected in the reports he has to issue at intervals. Another, who has Virgoon the cusp of the second and Mercury in Capricorn in the sixth, holds a scientific appointment under Government. Another, who has the lord of the second in the seventh, has benefited through his wife and is also in partnership. Another, who has the lord of the second in conjunction with the lord of the third, incurred debts that were paid by a brother. Another, who has the lord of the second in Libra in the eleventh, has received financial assistance from friends ; but it is squared by Saturn from the eighth house, and he separated from his wife, to whom he had to pay an allowance which he found it very hard to earn.

Instances like these might be multiplied to almost any extent if it were necessary ; bt the student will soon find from personal experience that the general principles here given are reliable.

(3) Thirdly, it is necessary to take into account those planets that have a general signification in connection with money and property, whether they have any dignityin the second house or not. If Venus or Jupiter is in good aspect to Saturn or the Moon, the influence is very favourable for wealth, especially if one ef them is ruler of the second or tenth. Probably the most favourable aspect for money is the trine of Jupiter to Saturn, and the least fortunate a square or opposition between these two planets. Of course, any good aspect signifies good luck of some sort, but unless one of the two planets has dignity in the second or tenth, or has some inherent signification in connection with possessions, the good luck indicated may have no financial significance. A good aspect to Venus, for instance, might give popularity and social success and bring no monetary prosperity: yet a trine or sextile from Venus to Saturn is extremely favourable for the accumulation of money.

The Moon in good aspect to the Sun, again, is a general indication of good fortune, paternal harmony, the favour of the family and of superiors and employers; but it may not produce much in the way of money unless one of the two is in the second or tenth; otherwise the success indicated will come mainly through the houses in which the two are placed. If benefics are strong, angular, and elevated, it is a good sign, also if malefics are well aspected; but whether the good signified will come through money and occupation or not depends upon their position by house and rulership. Saturn and the Moon are the two bodies that tend to accumulate and pile up money by caution, prudence, and thrift; this if carried to excess may become miserliness: but when afflicting each other they are very unfortunate, money is hard to earn, and property is Jost. Jupiter and Venus bring money by good luck, popularity, relatives, and friends; Mercury, by occupations of the nature ofthe third and sixth houses; the Sun and Mars by personal exertions and legacies, although they both part with money easily. Jupiter or the Moon in good aspect to Saturn may also bring legacies. Jupiter and

Venus are not of much use in the second house if they are seriously afflicted.

NEPTUNE denotes gain through navigation, and the sea generally

also through secret service, the turf, hospitals, asylums, institutions,

swimming baths and lavatories ; also through public establishments in which the unfortunate and afflicted portions of humanity are confined. Money may be gained in peculiar and questionable ways, sometimes through fraud and deception, blackmail or ways that are not considered exactly straightforward. ‘Bubble’ schemes come especially under the influence of this planet, also misrepresentation, ‘bogus count’ business, etc. \

Uranus denotes gain through antiquities ; old and curious objects; through unique employments of a purely mental character, especially those occupations in which the occult and mystical side of things are the main feature. It is the planet which brings gain through astrology, clairvoyance, mysticism and the occult generally. Writers of extraordinary fiction in which the imagination is of an exalted kind; organists or musicians who have a touch of genius in their composition come under Uranian influence; also high-class mechanics, inventors, originators and composers. In a general sense railway employees of all grades come under the influence of the planet Uranus.
