the usual manner, and similarly by treating the fourth house as the ascendant of the father, etc.

The author has known cases where the place of the Sun in the native’s horoscope has represented the nativity of the father, and the place of Venus that of the mother, but in any of these cases the affairs of the parents should be judged only from after the birth of the native.

Students may learn a great deal by this arrangement. The ruler of the tenth is in the fourth in the planet’s fall, indicating the mother’s honour. The ruling planet Mercury is in opposition to the planet Mars from the ascendant. She is described as a rebellious, thoughtless and impulsive woman, highspirited, careless and reckiess.—Modern Astrology, Vol. VI (Old Series) p. 49.

TueE fifth house relates to pleasure, society and social inclinations also the emotions and feelings. It may be regarded as a material representation of the eleventh house, which governs hopes and wishes, and often denotes their worldly fulfilment. It shows the nature of the native’s love affairs, courtships, and the affections which spring from the feeling and emotional side of the nature; it represents the seat of the physical and magnetic attractions between the sexes. It is also concerned with speculative affairs and all matters of enterprise and activity prompted by the desire nature; having a direct and what may be termed a lunar reflection from the eleventh house, which denotes the internal nature of the desires, hopes and wishes.

NEPTUNE in the fifth house denotes strange and abnormal conditions relating to sex matters. It is not a favourable position for any who have not definitely decided to choose platonic love in preference to the ordinary love attachments. All manner of evils arise from this position in connection with courtship and matters pertaining to the opposite sex.

If Neptune is afflicted in the fifth troubles are severe, many dangers being threatened, and unless the horoscope as a whole shows an innate love of purity the animal tendencies will override the human.

If Neptune is well aspected it tends to bring experiences in connection with the opposite sex which will be beneficial to the progress of the native.

Uranus in the fifth house causes strange and peculiar experiences in connection with the feelings and emotions, romantic love affairs, and unconventional ideas with regard to sex union. This position favours free love, and gives a tendency to ignore the legal tie, and act from an independent motive. It is not good as regards children and shows

separation from offspring and much anxiety through them. If afflicted 17a

many domestic troubles are shown, and some inconstancy and intrigue or liaison denoted.

Uranus in the fifth causes trouble and scandal through children, and is very unfavourable for all matters in which the senses play a prominent part. If with Venus, sometimes homo-sexual instincts.

If well aspected by the luminaries, secret love affairs of an ideal character are denoted; in good aspect with Mercury, exceptional correspondence and successful intercourse with the opposite Sex.

SATURN in the fifth house denotes hindrance, delay and disappointment in love affairs and causes the native to become attracted to persons who are older and more serious in nature and disposition. If evilly aspected, death of the loved one is probable, or some heavy sorrow in connection with the object of the affections. This is not a good position for bold speculations but is much more favourable for well-secured investments, especially in land, mines, or buildings. It denotes trouble through offspring, and lack of interest in pleasures or entertainments. It considerably tempers the affections.

If afflicted by Mars or Venus, danger of unnatural affections and a lack of real sympathy or feeling is denoted, This is avery unfavourable position where Saturn afflicts the luminaries.

JUPITER in the fifth house is a very favourable position, showing reasonable and legitimate affection, in which the senses are under control and the sympathetic side of the nature is expressed. It promises much success in courtship, and gain through the opposite sex. Itisa very good position for speculation, investment and financial enterprise. This position also promises good and dutiful children and much happiness through them.

In a female horoscope this position often denotes an attachment to a widower, or toaman who has had a former engagement which has affected his life to some extent. It favours love affairs with the religious minded or socially inclined. |

If afflicted by the luminaries or any of the planets the good influence of Jupiter is much modified, but if well aspected the life is successful, and there are many opportunities to become prosperous and happy through gratified affection.

If either of the luminaries be in trine aspect to Jupiter in the fifth, a fortune is likely to come to the native either through speculation,

lotteries, or what are called games of chance; but other influences should also be studied.

Mars in the fifth house denotes a very unsettled and inharmonious home life, in which discord and disputes are frequent. Impulsive, sudden, and unfortunate attractions towards the opposite sex, and an over-ardent, emotional nature is shown by this position. It inclines toward rash speculation, and if much afflicted shows gambling and prodigal tendencies.

If Mars and Jupiter are in evil aspect there will be a waste of the vital forces through unrestrained feelings, and if Venus is also in affliction ruin through the opposite sex is denoted.

If afflicted by Uranus, foolish and unreasonable infatuations are denoted.

Even if well aspected, Mars in the fifth shows extravagance, and excess of feeling. It is not good for children, kills one of them, and shows much trouble and danger through them.

Tue Sun in the fifth house denotes success in speculation and matters of enterprise, also gain through children, pleasure, society and entertainments. It is favourable for courtships and promises a successful and honourable attachment. Thisis not a fruitful position, however, and often denies offspring or brings trouble to the native at the birth of children.

If the Sun is afflicted in the fifth it is very evil, and denotes much loss through speculation or enterprise, and trouble in courtship through pride and jealousy. Afflicted by Uranus or Mars it denotes tragedy and very sorrowful love experiences.

If well aspected it considerably improves the nativity, giving success towards the close of life, and gain through children.

Venus in the fifth house denotes successful love affairs, the capacity to fully enjoy and extract the full measure of joy out of life. It gives ability to entertain others and much success in connection with entertainments, concerts and social gatherings and shows general domestic felicity. It promises gain through speculation, investment and general enterprise. This position of Venus favours a fruitful union, and gives children who are specially endowed with artistic or musical talents. :

If Venus is afflicted by: ‘3, strange courtships; Hl, very romantic attachments; h, disappointment in love affairs and grief or sorrow in

connection with the feelings; 6, there will be extravagance in matters of pleasure, or ungratified affection. |

Venus well aspected in the fifth is a sure token of a happy and successful love attachment ; but much depends upon the sign ruling the fifth house as to the expression of Venus in this house.
