And if Mars be configurated on equal terms with Venus, Saturn, and Mercury, he will effect mar-- lage between persons of equal age ;. but, on the other hand, should he be more oriental, marriage will take place with a: younger man or woman; and, if more occidental, with an older person. Should Venus and Saturn be. found in signs common to each other, that is to say, in Capricorn and Librat, marriage will be contracted between persons kindred by blood: and, when the said position may happen in the as-: cendant, or in the mid-heaven, provided the Moon also should’ present herself there, men will become connected with their mothers, or maternal aunts, or. with their mothers in law; and women with their own sons, or the sons of their brothers, or with their daughters’ husbands. Aries is the exaltation-sign of the Sun and hence this is the most powerful position of the central orb. There it radiates a vital force of unexampled strength which gives to the person a wonderful fund of energy wherewith to with-stand the onslaughts of disease and should he be taken ill his powers of recuperation will quickly free him from the clutches of sickness. People with this configuration are principally liable to fevers on account of the fervent heat of the Sun in Aries. As Aries rules the head the excessive heat often dries up the scalp so that the hair cannot grow and the person becomes bald.A favorable position for the financial fortunes but it also gives a tendency to extravagance, especially in dress, and makes the person extremely fond of the opposite sex, sometimes with detrimental results. It gives great physical strength and the person loves to show off that people may admire his prowess. Taurus rules the larynx and therefore the Sun in Taurus adds strength to the vocal organ and gives the person a strong, pleasant voice.Gemini is a Mercurial sign and third in the gamut, hence this position gives a blended influence of the Sun, Mercury and the Third House. This favors expression for Mercury as it is the planet which stirs the vocal chords and produces sound in the Taurian larynx; it also favors writings and travel; the mind is brightened bythe Sun in Gemini and when it is necessary or expedient to travel the person gains thereby physically and mentally. It gives a pleasant, affable disposition which makes him generally liked among his associates.

The house, exaltation, triplicity, term, and phase, are fortitude. Detriment and fall, are debilities.According to the Systems of Ancient Authors.to every rule they laid down, would be little short of bigotry and credulity. Still, it must be acknowledged that the ancients are entitled to our warmest gratitude, for the wonderful discoveries they made in the theory of celestial influence ; and it would ill become the author of this work, or his candid readers, to reject aught that they advanced, without repeated proofs of its fallacy.We have before observed that the planet Herschel was discovered in consequence of a celebrated Astronomer, frequently observing an irregularity in the motion of Saturn ; that he could not account for by any known theory of the heavens. This being the case, it would naturally be supposed, that the ancients in their observations, continually finding certain effects to follow, the cause of which was unknown to them, would frequently attribute partial effects to fallacious causes, whenever they found the known benevolent influence of Jupiter impeded in an unaccountable way. Hence the theory of the “ Terms” and “ Phases,” which the experience of the present day leads us to reject — as also the distinction between the day and night houses of the planets ; and the attributing one sign to a planet by day, and another by night, in the Triplicities, which evidently is a relic of ancient superstition ; since reason itself must tell us, that if a certain planet bears rule in a certain sign, (especially if posited therein) it must retain that rule, whether by day or night. The author therefore rejects the distinctions of diurnal and nocturnal rule in Houses or Tripli - cities , as superfluous and void of truth.The same objection may be made, although on different grounds, to the theory of the Terms and Phases ; the author’s present system of the “ essential dignities” therefore excludes these, as well as the precise degree of exaltation ; although he acknowledges the absolute truth of the ancient system, relative to the signs of heaven, wherein the planets have their fortitude or strength, by celestial (< House, Trigon, or Exaltation and also of their consequents debility” or weakness by the opposite signs, termed, their i( Detriment and Fall .” The following table will best explain his theory, to the student or curious reader.

The Sun in Taurus will make the individual character behind each lunar expression more firm, plodding, enduring and determined, but there will be a tendency to move slower and act more cautiously, quietly and practically than when the Sun was in Aries. We have now the expression of the Sun from the exaltation of the Moon, and each combination will tend to strengthen the personality more than the individuality, which may often lay behind the personal expression.This combination gives a very strong personality. There is a tendency to be impulsive, headstrong and rather too dogmatic. The abilities are not under-rated and there is a considerable amount of persistency, tenacity and exactitude. There is plenty of reserve power behind all the force that is expended, and when those born under this combination make up their minds to carry out any purpose in life, they nearly always succeed ; but they expect a great deal from others and manifest a stubborn desire to make others conform to their requirements — the moral nature is usually very strong.This combination gives success in life through energy and the desire to excel. It favours enterprise, the spirit of daring and all matters where a determined will is required. It gives good constructive power and the ability to organise. Prosperity is obtained through perseverance.This combination gives a considerable amount of determination, and those born under its influence are not easily thwarted in theirpurpose. They possess a great amount of self-control, but are rather too self-contained, too reserved, and often secretive ; but they are remarkably strong characters, fearless, persistent and hopeful, possessing much feeling and an affectionate nature. They easily attain to great success in the financial world and appear to have a disregard for finance although they cannot help being often very much mixed up with it. This combination is the most practical and solid of the preceding influences, but there is a danger of becoming too obstinate. When obedience is observed, they make very fine characters.* There is a tendency, however, to become too self-centred, and too reserved or determined.
