Chapter XV. The Eighth House—DeEatuH, AND THE DREAM CONSCIOUSNESS（续 1）

Tue Sun in the eighth shows that the middle period of life will be critical; and if malefics afflict, danger of violent or sudden death. If well aspected, the life is prolonged and vitality increased. This position is liable to affect the heart. Death may occur through hereditary or constitutional weakness, or it may be an honourable death due to some self-sacrifice or heroic deed. If the Moon afflicts the Sun the eyesight may be affected, and the health is. liable to be disturbed by malefic transits. Ifthe Sun is afflicted there is some likelihood of the premature death of the father; or of the husband, in a female horoscope: if well aspected, there may be money inherited from both these.

VeENus in the eighth house denotes a peaceful and easy death, but if afflicted death may be caused through pleasure, or its pursuit. If much afflicted kidney troubles may cause death, or diabetes and obesity or urinary troubles. This position promises financial gain by marriage or partnerships. It also denotes gain by legacy or through money that may be left by will or the goods of those who have passed from the physical into the next plane of existence. This position is favourable for the progress of the native at middle life or when finally settled in the domestic sphere by marriage or otherwise.

Mercury in the eighth house indicates a liability to brain and nervous disorders, which may be either the direct or indirect cause of death; this is an unfavourable position if Mercury is much afflicted by either Mars, Saturn, or Uranus. It generally denotes the consciousness to be active and fully awake at the time of death, but does not appear to be the direct cause of death, the afflicting planet being the cause according to its nature and aspect. This position denotes worry in connection with partner’s financial affairs, and to a female difficulty in obtaining money from her husband, or if Mercury is afflicted, quarrels in connection with finance. It also indicates an enquiring mind concerning occult subjects, and an inclination to study hidden and metaphysical problems,

Tue Moon in the eighth house denotes a death of a more or less public nature, death by drowning, shipwreck, public calamity, or in the presence of many people. Afflicted by Mars, danger of sudden or violent death; by Saturn, a lingering or very grievous end; by Uranus, a peculiar, sudden or extraordinary death; by Neptune, tragedy, danger from water. Well aspected, possibility of inheritance through women, or by the mother’s side of the family. Some likelihood of early death of the mother, or of the wife (in a male horoscope). In a woman’s horoscope it tends to increase the number of children, but threatens the death of one or more, especially if afflicted. If there is any tendency to occultism, this position will increase it and give practical ability for some form of psychism, such as clear dreaming, mediumship, etc. Every seventh year is apt to be a critical period for the life, especially if the Moon is afflicted.

In no case should death be judged by position alone; when the native has passed the infantile stage, death is, in nearly all cases, caused by a train of evil directions. Ifthe directions occur from fiery

and airy signs the death is more liable to be violent and sudden than when the affliction occurs from earthy or watery signs.

The earthy signs are more directly connected with the physical body, the watery signs with the etheric double, which is the finer mould into which the physical was cast at birth. The fiery signs are connected with the vitality or vital forces, and the airy signs with the nervous system, the brain and the mind generally.

The planets also have a significance apart from the sign they may be in. Neptune usually signifies a very mysterious death in some way. Sometimes the native dies in an unknown manner, or disappears and is never heard of again. But these are extreme cases. Uranus denotes sudden and peculiar deaths either through some new invention, by explosion, or diseases that are incurable, or where ignorance with regard to the ailment causes the native to have wrong treatment, etc. Uranus rarely kills unless very severely afflicted, and then is most probably an ‘ndirect cause of death. Saturn, death by suffocation, falls, bruises, rheumatism, consumption, and all cold, wasting, and lingering diseases. Jupiter, death by diseases of the liver and blood, according to the sign it occupies. Mars, death by suicide, fever, inflammations, violence and accidents. The Sun when denoting death affects the vital centres such as the heart, etc. Venus, death by poison, wasting diseases, diabetes, skin disease and venereal disorders. Mercury, diseases of the brain, melancholy madness, and nervous disorders. The Moon denotes death by drowning, phlegmatic and cold complaints in which the functional arrangeinents are disordered.

The sign upon the cusp of the eighth house, and the signs containing the majority of the planets, must have careful consideration in all questions of death.

A critical period is always reached when the luminaries are in conjunction, square or opposition.

Much skill is required, not only to discover the time of death, but also the nature of the disease causing death, and the blending of influences is always necessary. Saturn, Mercury and Venus are directly concerned with the physical body : Saturn governing the bony structure, the skeleton; Mercury the brain and nervous system; Venus the flesh and generative system. It is true that each planet governs a special part of the body, but in the main Saturn, Mercury and Venus are chief rulers of the physical conditions.

Cases of violent death are always very plainly shewn in horoscopes where both luminaries are afflicted by the ‘malefic’ planets. In the above nativity the Moon is hyleg and ruler of the horoscope of which Venus is part ruler, owing to her position near the Ascendant. It is the horoscope of a female born at 1 a.m. 8/ 8/ 30., Lat. 50.30 N and Long 2.30 W. She was executed for murder on the 2oth April, 1849.

Here we find both malefics afflicting the luminaries. The condition of the mind is shown by the third house and the sesquiquadrate aspect of ) 6d &,to ¥ ¢ h- Death by violence is here clearly marked by the affliction of the luminaries. The Moon is much afflicted and has no good aspects, applying to 6 ¢6 LJ) ¥ LJ) 9 Q ®& and hk and separating from ( ©. The © is @ Hl and applies to no good aspects.
