seventh house from the tenth or mid-heaven ; and death of religious persons, being the eighth house accounted from the ninth ; and upon the religion of the absent, as being the ninth to the eighth house ; also upon the (trade or) magistery of enemies, being the tenth from the seventh house ; also upon the friends and fortune of servants, being the eleventh to the sixth house ; and lastly, upon all questions relating to the private enemies of children, being the twelfth or house of enemies to the fifth house.”It is a feminine house, and being represented by rules in like manner the breast and lungs, as that sign does.
of the other, but from the seventh house the dividing line leads onward to the ‘ascending arc’ ef human progress, and to the broad daylight of the solar half of the circle, which is not only less limited and restricted in its expression but more potent and real than that which is foreshadowed by the dark and lower half. Each house directly or indirectly affects the native in a definite manner according to a fixed law; but the house alone is not wholly responsible for the event. In the order of the signs Venus governs the seventh and the second, love and money; but although Venus is the planet most active in the majority of cases when marriage takes place no hard and fast rule can be applied in every case of marriage, and it is therefore advisable that the student should carefully study what is meant by the term marriage. In our own country, forinstance, marriages take place at any time, and at any age. In India, on the other hand, marriages are arranged from birth, and in the majority of cases the native has no voice m the matter. In all parts of the world marriage laws differ, and the work of the astrologer is by no means an easy task when marriage is the subject for consideration. If the word ‘union’ is substituted for marriage many grave errors will be avoided, for it is possible to see a union of the sexes when it is difficult to be sure that a legal marriage has been contracted. In the course of practice an astrologer hears some very remarkable stories. In one instance the author was aware of a case where a highly respectable couple lived together as married, without having passed through the legal ceremony, for many years without the fact being in the least suspected. In another case a housekeeper had formed a union with her master which lasted for over twenty years. Three months before the birth of a child she was forced to marry a man she disliked to save herself from public dishonour. Cases are on record of marriage and separation taking place on the same day; and in fact the whole subject is one that requires the most careful judgment before any definite prediction can be safely made. There are four factors concerned in all cases of union; the Sun, the Moon, Mercury and Venus.
This combination is equal to the Moon being in opposition to the Sun. It acts as a seventh house influence, causing the personality to go out to many indiscriminately ; it gives intuition and ability to judge human nature quickly, and some very marked occult tendencies. It gives refinement and much determination and will-power.
XIV. The astrologer will be entangled in a labyrinth of . error, when the seventh house and its lord shall be afflicted.-+ XV. Signs cadent from the ascendant of any kingdom GGare the ascendants of that kingdom’s: enemies. But the angles and succedent houses are the ascendants of its friends. It is the same in all doctrines and institutions. __-XVI. When the benefics may be controuled in the eighth house, they bring. mischief by means of good men :. if, on the other hand, they he well. affected, they will a mischief. XVII. .Give no eacsicn as to the future life ne an agedperson, until the number. of yer he may. live shall have .
Of the angles, the first house governs our personal self, and its opposite the seventh house, rules the one who is nearest and dearest to us, namely, the marriage partner. The fourth house determinesconditions in our home and its opposite angle, the tenth house, shows our social standing in the community where we live. Thus the angles show collectively the sphere of our activities in life.Of the succeedent houses the second shows our financial status with regard to that which we acquire by our own efforts and the opposite succeedent house, the eighth, shows whatever we may receive from others as legacies, etc. The other succeedent houses, the fifth and eleventh, show how our income may be spent, for the fifth house indicates the children of our body who have a legitimate claim to a share of our income, and the eleventh house shows the children of our brain, our hopes, wishes and aspirations which also draw upon our resources.Of the two pairs of cadent houses the sixth is the house of voluntary service which we perform as our share of the world's work for an equivalent share in the world's wealth, and the twelfth house shows how we may be compelled to labor without remuneration under prison restraint if we do not work willingly. The sixth house shows also the state of our health and the twelfth tells if hospital treatment is necessary. The other pair of cadent houses, the third and ninth, show whether our life and work will confine us to one place or require travel and changes of residence. In this respect the third house shows short journeys and the ninth house long travels.
